TASK 3: WWW LESSON PLAN

'CHAPTER 15 - AMAZING SEA CREATURES'



LEVEL : Form 3 (Advance)
TIME : Double Periods (70 minutes)
TOPIC : Most Amazing Deep Sea Creatures
THEME : Science and Technology
LANGUAGE CONTENT: Grammar (Simple Present Tense, Descriptive Adjectives), Vocabulary

EDUCATIONAL EMPHASIS:
  1. Knowledge Acquisition (KA)
  2. ICT Skills
  3. Multiple Intelligence (MI)

MORAL VALUES:
  1. Students will appreciate and value about the uniqueness of the God's creation that gone beyond their sight - amazing sea creatures.
  2. Students will learn the importance of preserving the nature and avoiding water pollution so that the next generation will have the opportunity to learn and know about the existence of marvellous sea creatures.


PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:

Students have learned on ways to search and gather information from the Internet (World Wide Web). Besides that, the students also have basic knowledge about descriptive adjective learned in the previous class.


AIMS: At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Watch, read, obtain specific information from the online videos on the World Wide Web and transfer the information onto the worksheet provided.
  2. Do skimming and scanning activities for an online article of suitable length entitled, "10 Horrible Deep Sea Creatures" for information. Then, extract the facts about sea creatures from the article and transfer them onto the worksheet provided.
  3. Present the information clearly and accurately to others both orally and in writing.
  4. Learn and obtain new words and adjectives that are used to describe sea creatures.
  5. Use Internet browser and search engine in order to browse to a specific website given by teacher.

PREPARATION:

1) Locate interesting sites that provide clear and accurate information about amazing sea creatures, in both audio visual and textual forms.

2) Verify on the information provided on the sites before the lesson begins and check for availability of creative language games regarding the topic.

3) Prepare worksheets for activities.

PROCEDURE:


SET INDUCTION (10 Minutes)

  • Teacher recalls back what the students have learned in the previous class regarding way(s) to browse and gather information from the Internet as well as their knowledge about descriptive adjectives.
  • Teacher introduces students to the topic of the lesson and tells on how it relates to their previous lesson.
  • Teacher shows students a picture (of a sea creature) on the LCD screen and asks them:

1) Have you seen something like this before and where?

2) Name some sea creatures that you know.

  • Teacher writes down the names of the sea creatures given by students on the whiteboard.
  • Teacher gives feedback to the students’ answers.


DEVELOPMENT (55 minutes)

  • Teacher tells students on the things they are going to do in the lesson; where they are going to watch two short videos about amazing sea creatures and complete a worksheet based on the information given in the video.

Activity 1 (20 Minutes)

  • Teacher gives instruction on the first activity.
  • Teacher distributes a worksheet for each student.

  • Teacher plays a short video from specific website by using LCD Projector and asks students to complete the worksheet while watching it:

  • Teacher re-plays the video for the second time so that students can have last check on their answers.
  • Teacher provides help to the students if necessary.
  • Teacher asks students to present their answers voluntarily.
  • Teacher discusses the answers with the students.
  • Teacher leads students to the next activity of the lesson.


Activity 2 (35 minutes)


  • Teacher plays another short video from specific website by using LCD Projector and asks students to watch it attentively: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZXHHnysIWU
  • Teacher asks students to browse to an online article regarding sea creatures on a specific website:http://www.oddee.com/item_79915.aspx
  • Teacher gives brief explanation about the activity.
  • Teacher tells students the surface idea of the article.
  • Teacher gives students 10 minutes to read through the article individually and asks them to look for the meaning of the unknown words from the relevant websites.
  • Teacher distributes a worksheet based on the article to each student and gives instruction on how to complete it.
  • Teacher gives students 15 minutes to carry out the task.
  • Teacher provides necessary help to students.
  • Teacher picks students randomly to present the answers; that involve whole class feedback and discussion on the task, which leads by teacher. (10 minutes)


CONCLUSION (5 minutes)

  • Teacher recaps on what the students have learned in the lesson and at the same time, stresses on the moral values of it.
  • Teacher writes down a specific website address on the whiteboard: http://library.thinkquest.org/CR0215242/welcome.htm, and asks students to browse it by themselves at home for extra information regarding the topic.


FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITY

Teacher writes down an address of specific website on the whiteboard, which relates to the topic of the lesson and then asks students to register to the website and explore it by themselves as homework.   1. Assalamu'alaikum Prof..Wish you Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir & Batin. First and foremost, I would really want to apologize for hand-up this assignment over the due date even though I have finished it on time and this occurred due to few unfortunate reasons =( :
    1)I don't have access to Internet at home and the nearest cyber cafe's to my house already closed 2 days earlier before the Hari Raya, so I did not manage to send it through the centre.
    2)My auntie got Celcom Broadband, but she only gave it to me the day before Hari Raya since she and her husband just returned from Ipoh on that day..but the problem was that the broadband was too slow and it stucked when I wanted to submit the WWW Lesson Plan and I kept trying until I fell asleep at 3.00 am.

    I am so sorry for the inconvenience Prof. :(
    By the way, please pray for my grandfather, he just passed away on the fourth day before the Hari Raya :(
